National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition E85

Ethanol is environmentally friendly as it reduces pollutants, such as ozone, carbon monoxide, and air toxins such as benzene. The U.S. Department of Energy supports the use of blends of ethanol with gasoline as a means to reduce our nation’s reliance on imported petroleum for transportation.

Gasoline blended with 10% ethanol is approved for use in all gasoline vehicles and has been used for years across the nation to improve air quality.

All auto manufacturers warranty their vehicles to operate on 10% ethanol blended with gasoline. Ethanol has higher octane than gasoline, leading to excellent performance, drivability, and increased horsepower. It also has a higher oxygen content than any fuel available today, making it burn cleaner than gasoline, which keeps your engine cleaner.

Ethanol is a clean, alternative fuel made primarily from renewable resources, such as American grown corn. It is grown by Americans, processes by Americans, and bought and sold by Americans. One bushel of corn produces 2.7 gallons of ethanol in addition to several valuable co-products. Using only the starch from the corn kernel, the fermentation process leaves behind nearly all of the valuable vitamins and protein for use in other products, such as gluten feed and meal. The gluten is then fed to livestock, adding even more value to our nation’s large corn crop.

We appreciate your business and thank you for helping to reduce our dependency on Middle East oil imports. Thank you for supporting and helping create American jobs!

Ethanol E85

What is E85 and what are its benefits?

E85 is the term for motor fuel blends of up to 85% ethanol and 15% gasoline. It is considered an alternative fuel under federal and state laws.

Benefits of E85:

  • Using E85 reduces harmful emissions and helps protect the air we breathe.
  • Ethanol is a bio-based fuel made from corn and other renewable sources right here in the USA.
  • Using E85 makes us less dependent on foreign oil because ethanol is made in America, from crops grown by American farmers.
  • No special training or knowledge is needed to fuel an E85 vehicle. E85 looks and feels just like conventional gasoline.
  • The typical range of a vehicle operating on E85 is excellent.
  • There is little to no incremental cost to you on the purchase of an E85 vehicle.
  • All E85 vehicles are proven reliable vehicles, built as original equipment from the manufacturer, and have the same warranties as gasoline vehicles.
